Ingredients

Shrimp Marinade

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp crushed black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp corn starch
  • 1 clove chopped garlic
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions/scallions
  • 2 tbsp dark sauce sauce

For Making Shrimp Broth

  • 6 cups water
  • 1 pinch salt
  • shrimp shells from 1 lbs raw shrimp

For making Shrimp Dumplings

  • 1 pk round pot stickers/dumpling wrapper - about 25 to 30 in a pack available at Asian grocery stores or supermarkets
  • 1 lbs marinated raw shrimp-medium size peeled and deveined

For seasoning/flavoring Shrimp Dumpling Soup

  • 2 tbsp ginger - half chopped, half thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped garlic
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped green onions/scallions
  • 1 medium green chili pepper - thinly sliced in in roundels
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro/coriander leaves
  • 1/2 tsp crushed black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil

Instructions

  • Making Marinade
  • In a bowl add raw peeled and deveined shrimp and all ingredients listed above for marination. Mix well & set aside for 30 minutes or more.

Making Shrimp Broth

  • Heat 5 cups of water in saucepan and add all Shrimp Broth prep ingredients listed above. Stir well, bring to a boil and let it simmer for 30 minutes or more. Longer it simmers better the flavor.

Making Shrimp Dumplings

  • Spread pot sticker/dumpling wrappers on a flat surface/cookie sheet. Place one marinated shrimp in each of them. Moisten edge of wrapper then fold to created half circle. Press edges to seal the shrimp in the wrapper. Set aside once all the Shrimp dumplings have been created.
  • Drain shrimp stock that has been simmering in the pot to a bowl. Use a sieve/filter to remove shrimp shells and other ingredients. This will give you a nice clear, freshly made shrimp broth.
  • Pour the shrimp broth back to the saucepan, keeping the heat on medium low.
  • Add remaining ingredients listed under flavoring/ seasoning shrimp dumplings to the saucepan. Mix well and add the shrimp dumplings to the broth, one at a time.
  • Cook shrimp dumplings for about 2 to 3 minutes so that both the wrapper and shrimp are cooked completely. Do not over cook or shrimp will become hard and rubbery.
  • Wallah! Your Shrimp Dumpling Soup is ready to be served.
  • In a big bowl delicately transfer the soup - dumplings and the broth- to a serving bowl.
  • Finally, garnish with chopped green onions, green chili slices and cilantro leaves. Enjoy!
